What is Snowbate?

The Film Jobs Program commonly known as Snowbate is a Film and TV production incentive in the State of Minnesota.  Our current incentive works as a 25% cash rebate. The program is funded by the MN legislature through the MN Dept of Economic Development.

In the past 4 years the Snowbate program has created over $75 million in economic spending in MN while being only modestly funded.  We have attracted new productions from Fox Searchlight, ABC, HBO, Netflix, Amazon and IFC.  We have strengthened our local advertising community by adding 67 new TV Commercial Productions.  And we have continued growth in our Post Production industry by adding 57 Post Production projects including a new animated series for Amazon.

How Does it Compare?

Many states offer Film and TV production incentives that are better than what MN offers.  Those states see much larger returns in economic spending and job creation.  Film Production Capital gave Minnesota's Snowbate program 2 out of 5 stars.  That leaves us trailing behind states such as Georgia, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and even Kentucky.  MN can compete with those states.  The problem is not a lack of resources.  It is a lack of funding for our Snowbate Program.

What can we do?

We need to all work together to convince the MN Legislature to increase funding for Snowbate.  The goal of this website and social media campaign is to link all of MN Film in to one grassroots movement called 'Fund Snowbate.'  Fund Snowbate will send out regular emails with information about what is happening at the Capitol and how you can help.  We will need everyone to contact legislators.  Together we can help to FUND SNOWBATE!
